The last ISMA meeting on October 25 had an excellent turnout. The main topic was the Streetscape Construction update. After the October 21 weekend water shutoffs impacting the commercial district on Sunday October 22 during Breakfast and Brunch hours, the need for better communications was elevated.
ISMA received sincere apologies from city departments (DPW, MTA, Water Dept) for the communication lapse regarding water shutoff on Sunday, October 22. While the city was able to quickly intervene to move the water shutoff to pre-dawn on Sunday rather than 7am-11am peak breakfast/brunch hours, communication about this change was limited. Another phase of water shutoff will occur in the next week to connect individual units to the main. Water Department plumbers will go door-to-door to coordinate individually with merchants optimal time to complete this work.
To improve communication from Streetscape project, DPW has offered to include the ISMA email list on DPW's weekly communications. Inquire for details to subscribe to project communications from DPW.
Parking mitigation: As a result of input from ISMA and ISPN, DPW has identified 10 additional parking space to add temporarily during construction. Most of the spaces will be on Funston.
Holiday Moratorium: All construction in commercial areas will cease between Thanksgiving Day and New Years Day to allow business to continue unimpeded during the busy holiday season. Construction will continue during this time in residential areas, which may be adjacent to commercial area.
